Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Academic Load (Sebastien Resendes, a sole proprietorship based in Nevada, United States) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Academic Load website and applications (the “Service”).

1. Information we collect

• Account information. Your email address and a password. Passwords are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see your plaintext password.
• Content you add. Tasks, courses and their colors, class schedules, timers, theme settings, and the syllabus files you upload along with the dates and labels extracted from them.
• Payment information. Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details directly; we do not receive or store your full card number. We receive a Stripe customer identifier, your subscription status, and billing period dates.
• Technical data. Our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically log standard information such as your IP address, browser type, and request timestamps for security and reliability. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in.

2. How we use your information

• to provide, operate, secure, and improve the Service;
• to process your syllabus uploads — extracting dates and, for subscribers, classifying items (see section 3);
• to handle billing, subscriptions, and support requests;
• to detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, and technical problems;
• to contact you about your account or important changes to the Service, and — only if you opt in — occasional product updates.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not run ads.

3. How the syllabus reader processes your files

Free plan: syllabus files are processed on our servers using pattern matching to find dates. The text is not sent to any AI provider.

Paid plan: the text extracted from your syllabus file is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, through its API, which returns a structured list of dates and labels. As of the effective date of this policy, Anthropic states that it does not use data submitted through its API to train its models, and retains API inputs and outputs only for a limited period for trust-and-safety purposes before deleting them. We encourage you to review Anthropic’s privacy policy. We keep the extracted dates and labels in your account so the Service can display them; we do not keep the original file contents beyond what is needed to process the upload.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these situations:

• Service providers (subprocessors) that run the Service on our behalf:
  • Supabase — database and authentication
  • Vercel — application hosting and infrastructure
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Anthropic — AI syllabus processing (paid plan only)
• Legal reasons — to comply with law or a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of you, us, or others.
• Business transfer — if the Service is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data and content within 30 days, except for records we are required to keep (for example, transaction and tax records) or that are retained in routine encrypted backups for a limited period.

6. Your choices and rights

• Access and update most of your information directly in the app.
• Delete your account. Email academicload@gmail.com from your account address and we will delete your account and data.
• Emails. You can opt out of non-essential emails. We still need to send you essential account and billing messages.
• Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, California, or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights such as access, correction, deletion, portability, or objection. Contact us at the address above to exercise them; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.

7. Cookies

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies, primarily a session cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy first.

8. Security

We use HTTPS to encrypt data in transit and rely on established providers (Supabase, Vercel, Stripe) with their own security programs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it. If you are between 13 and 18, use the Service only with a parent or guardian’s permission.

10. International users

We operate in the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States. By using the Service, you understand that your information will be handled as described in this policy.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version with an updated “Last updated” date, and for material changes we will give notice by email or in the app.
