What do I need on my final?
Type in your current grade, how much the final is worth, and the grade you're aiming for. You'll see the score you need on the final - and what every letter grade would take.
You need about 96% on the final (A range) to finish the class at 90%.
| A (90%) | 96% or better |
|---|---|
| B (80%) | 56% or better |
| C (70%) | 16% or better |
| D (60%) | Already locked in |
How it's calculated
Your grade so far counts for the part of the class that's already graded (100% minus the final's weight). Whatever's left has to come from the final:
needed = (target − current × (100 − weight) ÷ 100) ÷ (weight ÷ 100)
For example: you have an 88% now, the final is worth 25%, and you want a 90%. Your graded work is holding up 66 points (88% of the 75% already graded), so you need 24 more points out of the final's 25 - a 96%.
Keep track of every class, not just one final
Academic Load's Grades tab holds each class's weights and scores, and tells you what you need on everything that's left.
Questions
Does this work for a class with no final exam?
Yes. Use the weight of whatever is left - the last exam, a final project, or the remaining assignments combined - as "the final."
Does it handle dropped scores, curves or extra credit?
No. It uses the numbers you type in, so if your instructor drops your lowest quiz or curves the class, adjust your current grade to match what your gradebook shows.
What if my grade isn't out of 100?
Convert it to a percentage first (points earned divided by points possible, times 100).
